ADOPTED 11-03-12 – Though our rescue is primarily for German shepherds we occasionally find other breeds or mixes that have that “special something”. Our new boy racer is one of these exceptions, a German shepherd/great Pyrenees mix that exudes that “something special”. Racer is going to be a very big boy (est. 110 pounds) when he fills out, unfortunately he came to us malnourished. As with many of our rescues this guy had a rough life, abandoned, neglected and unloved but that “something special” thing came through and our boy chose to embrace his future. Racer at first was timid and frightened but again he pushed right through these emotions and learned to trust, love, play and above all else be happy. All people should be able to experience the awesome sight of these special animals breaking from their horrible pasts and running head long into a future they now relish. At this point racer is happy playing with the other shepherds, swimming in the pool, chasing the water from the hose and laying comfortably at your feet soaking up the love as he is petted.

BLONDE WITH A BLACK MUZZLE **NEUTERED**FULLY VETTED** GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS**GREAT WITH PEOPLE**LEASH, HOUSE AND BASIC COMMAND TRAINED

Racer has successfully accomplished his socialization and training programs reflecting a capability to handle almost any kind of work. This guy is smart, intuitive, open, loyal, gentle, loving and possesses a strong but in control protective instinct. Racer works well with the other dogs, individually, in small groups and with the whole crowd (15-20 shepherds). Our boy gets alo0ng well with people of all sizes and ages but is definitely drawn, as most shepherds are, to children. He is absolutely this most gentle and caring dog I have ever seen around kids, playing and protecting at the same time, you would have to see his interaction to fully understand his depth. Racer is leash, house and basic command trained.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
