ADOPTED 11-03-12 – Kristen, Kristen, Kristen, how can I explain this wonderful, joyous, beautiful, loving creature. This young lady came to our German shepherd rescue via the animal shelter route, she appeared to have been severely harshly handled and severely malnourished in her previous life. Once we had this girl in our hands it became extremely obvious that we had a very special canine, intelligent, strong, capable and intuitive. As we worked with Kristin we were able to determine that she had escaped a breeding operation where she had been stunted so that they (the breeders) could place more dogs in the same kennel space. It was during this time that we (our rescue) came to understand what an amazing dog that we had in our presence, this lady had escaped and survived an unspeakable horror 100% on her own. Kristen recognized that we were safe almost immediately, opening herself to us without restraint. Our girl gets along well with everybody and everything, she is one of the most loving dogs I have ever encountered but make no mistake, and she reads people instantly and correctly every time. Kristen is, as previously stated, extremely intelligent, open, and friendly and she possesses a very strong but in control protective instinct. It is a true joy to what this dog in the presence of children, she is gentle, loving, playful and protective, instantly and every time.

BLACK AND TAN***NEUTERED*** FULLY VETTED*** GREAT WITH PEOPLE
GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS*** LEASH, HOUSE AND BASIC COMMAND TRAINED

Kristen is a female German shepherd, black with tan secondary markings, will probably weigh between 55 and 65 pounds when fully recovered, is between 24 and 30 months old and has had probably no more than 2 litters. We have tested Kristen extensively with people, young children and other dogs and to date she has had nothing but positive experiences. If Kristen has an issue it is that she is at least as smart as me (the trainer ) and probably a lot smarter, if you think that you can keep Kristen somewhere that she does not want to be you are grossly mistaken. Our girl would be best suited to a family that has someone around most of the time, otherwise when you leave she will just come to wherever you are anyway. Having said this , if you are looking for a new family member that is supremely loving, totally dedicated and that will fit in anywhere, then you should apply for our Kristen.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
