ADOPTED 12-03-10; Please allow us the fine introduction of the precious and delicate tri-colored Chihuahua we have all come to love: PHINEAS! Found wandering the Gulf Coast streets of Ocean Springs, Mississippi–like a wayward little vagabond– this adorable 8 pound little guy had no home, an obvious flea allergy and yet he had a HEART that obviously was bigger than any of those problems because we didn’t hesitate to take him into our care IMMEDIATELY. One of the kindest humans we know, brought him to our rescue and lovingly cared for him with her two dogs, and she, too, fell madly in love with the little sprite! It was clear that this precious creature had at one time been a cherished and beloved family pet, but the rest of PHINEAS’ story is simply unknown.

After advertising for a week, trying to find his previous owners to no avail, we took PHINEAS into our program and had him fully vetted. Given that he was not altered and still intact and had an awful loss of hair on his back due to extreme flea infestation, we were certain he’d test Heartworm positive too as it was likely nobody had been bothering to care for him in a while. Monthly heartworm prevention was likely not considered, and sadly, he DID test positive, but he’s now finished with his treatment and rid of those dastardly worms, neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccines and just one stellar little Chihuahua, that at times seems below ankle height, even!

PHINEAS IS A STUNNINGLY SPECIAL LITTLE GUY THAT YOU CAN’T HELP BUT FALL IN LOVE WITH INSTANTLY! He’s truly, just that special . . . and it takes seconds to feel that way!

We lovingly call PHINEAS our “totable” dog, as he shares his foster home with another rescue, a loving female labrador retriever whom he can be found playing with quite frequently and two huge resident rescued Golden Retrievers, whom Phineas also likes quite well. But his most FAVORITE of all, MOPZILLA, the little 8 pound shih-tzu poodle mix who was rescued tied to a post in RI in three feet of snow at barely 4 months old and 4 pounds! It’s quite a spectacle to behold, actually. All five dogs playing quite nicely together, and all the big dogs either lay on the floor while the little ones romp all over them, or they climb on the sofa, to get the extra height needed to be face to face with the bigger canines who are sitting at the edge, enjoying every second just as much! Phineas isn’t one of those typical Chihuahua’s who are somewhat clannish and prefer their “own kind” over all others! Not PHINEAS! He’s an equal opportunity lover, a ROMEO of sorts, really. He even exists peaceably with the 21 year old resident feline.

Phineas is NOT a barker, carries himself with a “soft step” and is quite delicate and mature! PHINEAS should NEVER be thought of as a YAPPY little dog because such is his antithesis. Now, please be forewarned: PHINEAS TALKS! Yes, it’s true, he can be heard saying, “I LOVE YOU,” in three short bark-like utterances, and if you have the music on, it won’t be long before he’s imitating the sounds coming from the radio. It’s quite a special thing to behold, really. PHINEAS is a mature and settled, beautifully marked tri-color Chihuahua who enjoys ALL people, EVERY CHILD and manages other animals quite well no matter their size or breed! He is so incredibly gentle and sweet, and quite unique for how calm and subdued he is, until his little Mop of a mate in the house entices him play — and then they roll around endlessly together, making magical smiles appear on all our faces.! While Phineas ABSOLUTELY LOVES to play with the other little dog in the house, he knows he’s hit the BIG LEAGUES when the bigger 100 pound dogs want to join in their fun. Yet, he’s smart enough to know his little size and he gets out of their way quite readily, or runs underneath them as they fetch their balls — quite a sight to see!

The ideal home would have another smaller dog and a family with a lot of time to share with PHINEAS. Completely house-trained and not destructive at all, he a connoisseur of treats and delectables of all kinds.

Phineas prances about and has a great little bark that announces visitors, and that’s about the only time one hears a peep out of him, that is unless you are patting him on his tummy while he lays close to you — all four little feet in the air — and lets out the sweetest of pleasurable sounds, letting you know he’s grateful to have your doting attention! PHINEAS is self-assured and circles and dances when you greet him! He is intelligent and loving, fun and subdued and would be very adaptable to most living situations. Simply put, PHINEAS is a gentle dog, not pushy and very joyous to have around. His petite and graceful ways immediately make you fall fast in love. This special dog CRAVES HUMAN ATTENTION and even burrows in the sheets at nighttime to be as close to his people as possible, and there he remains — all night until you make your first little inkling that you are awake, and then there is this beautiful tri-colored little Chihuahua staring at you in the face, wagging his tail furiously to help you greet the day! In fact, that’s what he does best — stay close, wag his tail and remind you that everything in life is ALL GOOD! What an easy and fabulous dog who loves his temporary foster home, the dogs in it, the yard and his new found health and happy spirits! PHINEAS is indeed a special boy who is now READY FOR YOU TO FALL IN LOVE WITH AS WE SO CLEARLY HAVE .

ABOUT OUR RESCUE

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc., we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It’s sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don’t want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It’s that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that’s our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE’VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you’ll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can’t continue rescue if we don’t do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family’s eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you’ve submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you’ve got the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog

Please contact: RESCUEDOGVILLAGE@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
