ADOPTED ON 05-23-13 – Sara, aka Blue, is the absolute sweetest dog there is. She just wants to be loved. She has been with me and her foster sister Callie since January. They are the best of friends. They love playing together but also both play well alone. We have to stick to chew toys as Blue thinks her main job is to get the squeaker out, eat it and then pull all the stuffing out of them.

Sara was found trotting down the middle of the highway.  In order to her out of harm’s way, a friend of the local dog pound put her in his truck then called the Winnsboro Dog Pound in LA.  Since she was found inside City limits, they normally would’ve gone into the City animal control pens however, she was such a good dog and the volunteers were afraid that she would be euthanized. That is when Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. got a call to help, Sara was accepted in the program, she was examined by a vet, was spayed, vaccinated and moved to a foster home in New York.

The kennel workers said, “She is so sweet!  And she is soft, too!”  They fell in love with Sara, because of her willing spirit.  She loves to be around people, she has a moderate to high and is a bit more calm than most Australian Shepherds.  She doesn’t pace around her kennel, or jump; she is plenty active, but not at all hyper like some are.

In her loving New Your foster home, Sara Blue is very food motivated so she is learning things quickly. She is getting good at sit, down and leave it. We are working on come but that seems to be difficult for her. She is great on a leash and loves to ride in the car. She sits quietly in the back and looks out the windows or sometimes goes to sleep. She is a perfect angel in her crate and never fusses. She does seem to have a high prey drive and would chase anything she could if I let her. She especially likes to chase cats. Because of this drive, I do keep her leashed or on a tie out when I am home outside with her. She is perfect on a tie out but would prefer a fenced yard to run. She loves to run.

We go to the dog park when we can and get just loves everybody, people and dogs. She great with bigger dogs but we still hang out with big and small dogs. She does go to daycare with Callie once a week and everybody there loves her. They say she is very social and very well behaved but never seems to run out of energy.

Sara doesn’t seem to pay much attention to the 9 year old little girl that lives downstairs as she would rather play with Callie although she does get all excited when she comes out to play with the dogs. She loves my 3 pre-teen nieces and cannot get enough of them. She seems to like being on furniture but I have banned her and Callie from all furniture but the bed. They are my snuggle bugs at night. They have plenty of beds to lie on and sometimes they go into their crates. She is an easy dog to care for and a pleasure to have around.

Sara is perfect for people, dogs and children over the age of 7.  If you are looking for a sweet dog that loves her life and snuggling, you won’t be disappointed. Sara has showed us that she is a very special dog that deserves a special owner. Her loyalty, character and whimsical sense of humor place her in a class by herself!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
