ADOPTED – 08-13-10 – NOW seven months old and fast growing, this 61 pound Chesapeake Bay retriever has all the paperwork to register for AKC certification from the breeder where he was rescued. JEB is full of pure LOVE and JOY, exuberant puppy happiness and the promise that he will mature into a BEAUTIFUL FULL-BLOODED CHESSIE that so many folks love and adore with these curly-headed water-loving retrievers! It’s no wonder this breed is revered and has die-hard followers who celebrate the wonderful qualities that comprise a Chesapeake Bay retriever. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers (CBRs) are a breed uniquely their own: intensely loyal, doting toward their human brood, blessedly sensitive, serious and committed dogs, qualities that make them superb human companions! JEB is following his breed’s description to the letter, and LOVES LARGE, PLAYS LARGE, AND APPRECIATES LARGE!

The breed is a result of crosses with Newfoundland’s, hounds, setters, water spaniels and other dogs — all chosen to make them the best of the “DUCKING DOGS” around — and that innate trait still exists in most Chessies today! JEB is no exception! He is a young male that is so playful and loving with his classic curly water-repelling coat on his back and torso with a beautiful sedge-colored masked face that endears him to all immediately. And as he matures we are witnessing the amazing change in his coat and he’s growing in our hearts too, for sure!

OUR DOGS ARE MICRO-CHIPPED AND READY TO BE PART OF YOUR FAMILY TODAY!

Jeb is being lovingly fostered by a seasoned trainer and rescuer who is well-versed with this breed. Randy has over 40 years’ experience working with dogs in a variety of settings, and says that JEB is “one special puppy” that greets you with all the glee one might hope to get from a best friend happy to see you! Jeb is currently in foster care. This young gorgeous pup was rescued from a back-yard breeder, and is thriving in the care of our devoted trainer who spends countless hours working with him each week, and daily so that he can have the mental and physical stimulation required to help him mature into the fine dog he was always meant to be.

According to Randy, “JEB HAS NEVER MET A STRANGER.” He loves animals of all sizes and breeds, and genders. His favorite thing to do? KEEP FOCUSED ON HIS FAVORITE PERSON AT ALL TIMES! And he absolutely LOVES CHILDREN! The 2 and a half year old little boy that visits regularly adores JEB equally, and it’s amazing to see how quickly and readily this dog wants to play and bond and be part of your world. It’s amazing to see such a connection through the simple glance between human and dog — but it’s undeniable. And it’s for this express reason that Chessie’s, especially JEB, must always be trained consistently and fairly as they are so sensitive and can often be redirected and guided with a low, sharp, word, taking VERY SERIOUSLY, the tone and intention of their leader whom they are soooo focused on pleasing. Training this dog is easy because of that willingness to please . . . That is, after all, a CBR’s over-arching goal: to PLEASE THEIR OWNER. The bond that is possible between a Chessie and its human can be so wonderful and powerful and it’s why a dog like JEB would need to be a TOTAL MEMBER of one’s family, and he will give of himself one-hundred fold — and then some! So, if you’re looking for a special dog, you may have just found your match with this spectacular pure-bred Chessie named JEB!

JEB doesn’t really know he’s 61 pounds of puppy because he loves to crawl into Randy’s lap after being worked for 40 minutes and just gaze up and look into his eyes as they sit by the lake together, as he solidifies their connection with closeness. A small stroke on JEB’s head, and he feels satisfied that he’s “done well.” Be forewarned, JEB is a master retriever — but EVERY SINGLE TENNIS BALL COMES BACK TOTALLY DEFLATED. BIG SMILE! And yet, it comes back — just flat! There’s nothing JEB loves more than to swim, swim and swim some more — except LOVE! It’s his favorite form of exercise, for sure — so his potential new family would want to enjoy long swims and ball tosses into a lake or favorite watering hole whether it be a river or ocean. He’s not picky!

JEB is the breed standard in every regard: he’s active, intelligent, and thrives when given a job and responsibilities. COMPANIONSHIP is high on the list! His willingness to please is unparalleled and his big heart offers endless love and devotion. JEB plays so well with the other dogs that he’d even be great at a dog park. We all smile when we hear Randy refer to JEB as a “pogo stick,” noting that “Jeb hops up and down on his back legs with such eagerness for the next ball to be tossed into the pond,” remarking that he is just “A big happy camper, love-sponge” who is a VERY HEALTHY, WELL-ADJUSTED, ALTERED, COMPLETELY VETTED, HOUSE-TRAINED dog that is ready to jump straight into the right family’s hearts and take roost there. JEB IS A REAL CHARMER AND LOVER! So, if it’s companionship, affection and doting devotion that you are seeking, JEB might be the dog for you. He has that remarkable eye contact and is so attuned to all the feelings and emotions that his favorite people are experiencing that it’s almost eerie, but again, that’s true to the breed’s disposition and sensitive nature! One never forgets a Chessie, and Chessie’s never forget their people!

Jeb’s ideal family will be an active one, and must commit to consistent training and continued nurture with this stunning and special puppy as he grows and matures: the results will be worth it. The good news is because of his intelligence, he’s just so easy to train and is eager than most dogs to please making him have a longer than usual attention span that allows for a fun time with obedience — especially if he’s praised often and well for a good job!

JEB IS AN INCREDIBLE PUREBRED CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER PUPPY — awesome in every regard, with a completely sound temperament, sure to make an equally superb family companion for a responsible and affectionate adopter. Fortunately, JEB’s rescuer, Randy, is a skilled trainer with over 40 years’ experience working with dogs. Not only has his temperament and personality been evaluated thoroughly, but he will be adopted highly trained. The dog you meet will be the one you are told about as our rescue believes ONLY in full disclosure on every level before placing dogs and then, of course, we offer continued advisory support afterwards on all our canine charges. Our adopters become part of the rescue team, and we work together to help acclimate the dogs into their new lives. “RESCUE TAKES A VILLAGE” — and we are honored to work with you to welcome your next four-legged family member into your hearts and home, grateful for people who are so willing to make a difference to these dogs who need us most.

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc., we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It’s sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don’t want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It’s that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that’s our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WEVE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
