ADOPTED ON AD 06-16-23: Our German shepherd rescue is proud to post for adoption an 18-month-old knockout man child, “the Zack”! This guy has it all strength, agility, intelligence, loving demeanor, high desire to train and I did say strong, right? Zack, when grown, will be well north of 100 pounds, have a gorgeous sable coat, have perfect symmetry, have a perfect gait and will process a tremendous presence. Zack was rescued from a situation that was quite unfortunate, his previous owners had no understanding the breed, had never possessed the breed, knew nothing about training and guess what, and he ran all over them. In his case it was definitely an owner problem and not a dog problem.

This “monster of a dog” has turned out to be more mamma dog in nature, all he wanted was where the boundaries were. As owner of this rescue and trainer of Zack, I can say with all confidence that he has very few limits, is tremendously intelligent, is highly focused, bonds very strongly and excels in a climate mutual respect. We have found this young giant of a dog to be very loving, open to people, insightful, playful and a joy to be around.

Like all top-notch German shepherds, Zack has very conscious of all things surrounding “his” people, his protective instinct is very high but equally in control. As you might expect our boy knocked the socks off all of our socialization and training programs, affirming his great desire to train, his ability assess a wide range of inputs, his natural human drive and his strong command of social order. Zack is not a dog for anyone that does not have a solid German shepherd background, if you do not lead, he will. Again, as Zack’s trainer, this guy’s ability is almost limitless, given the right environment, your personal time, love and commitment. I am proud to have been able to be a part of Zack’s life, he is simply amazing!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
