ADOPTED 09-22-12 – We in animal rescue see many things that cause us to doubt the moral base of mankind; few of these events surpass the extreme nature of the offense survived by our ward Trevor, a German shepherd. Trevor came to us malnourished (half the normal weight), hairless (flea allergies and demadex ), parasite infested, open and infected wounds, emotionally broken and devoid of all will to live. Having said this there was something, something that I just could not put my finger on that screamed, “save this animal, he is truly special. Sooooooo, our rescue went to work, feeding small meals six to seven times a day, daily skin treatments, walking a few steps/a few yards/a few hundred yards, treating every parasite known to man, petting and holding multiple occasions a day and above all else opening our hearts and letting Trevor in. During this process it became obvious that we were learning more from Trevor than he would ever learn from us, his tremendous desire to live, his awesome ability to forgive and his inexhaustible capacity to love without condition.

BLACK/RED/TAN IN COLOR***NEUTERED***FULLY VETTED***GOOD WITH PEOPLE***GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS***LEASH, HOUSE ANDE BASIC COMMAND TRAINED

Trevor has developed into a beautiful specimen of the breed, loyal, friendly, loving, intelligent, athletic and protective. This young man (4-5 years) now has a gorgeous, full and glowing black and tan coat ( mostly black ), is an almost perfect weight for his size ( 60-65 pounds ), is highly muscled, is energetic, has an extreme passion for life and above all else is a pure joy to be around. The fact that Trevor survived the 4-5 years of hell that was his life speaks volumes about his deep character, his intelligence, his inner strength and his will. I would genuinely hope to meet a person one day that could stack up to our special boy, Trevor.
Trevor revels in the presence of people, especially children, embracing everything about them and devouring their attention. This guy is great with other dogs, working well in both small and large groups, understanding immediately what is expected of him.
Trevor has also completed his training on a leash, is house trained and has learned his basic commands.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
