ADOPTED 01-24-14 – The first thing that you will notice when you get to know Talulah is that she loves with her whole heart. Not many dogs love with the passion and dedication that comes so natural to her. She is one of those dogs that you remember for your whole life because she possesses a burning desire to please you—there is no question, she would lay down her life for you.

Video #1 –
Talulah & Callie Ann

Talulah’s burly personality lets you know that there are no hidden behaviors; she is a take charge kind of dog; she wants to make sure that her family is not hurt. This tells us that somewhere in her past, she has met some difficult and scary circumstances and had to step up to be safe.

Talulah is leery of certain males, we are not sure why however, it has been our experience that she is telling us that she might have had an experience that frightened her.  She does adjust as she becomes comfortable and in time, with the right family, that will go away. She also does not like hollering or loud noises which reestablishes that she has had an experience where she was startled. Dogs and children come into the world with a clean slate so while the situation might not have been life threatening, it was enough to scare her. That also will get better and better with time.

Talulah is a very smart dog and loves to be energetic and outdoors; she wants to be with you. Talulah will need someone that will not give up on her and with each new situation; her new family must let her know that she does not have to worry. Dogs are like children and they need to know what to do and what not to do.

Talulah is an owner turn in and her family loved her very much so whatever happened to her, happened before they adopted her.  Dogs observe things in ways that we would never understand. We once had a dog stare at a plastic Stop & Shop bag for 3 hours and didn’t move. It was obvious that he thought it might be a monster.

If you like to take your dog with you wherever you go and if you can give your pet extra exercise, Talulah is your girl. She is a very happy dog that embraces and loves life and wants new experiences.  Most dogs need to go out at least 4 times a day, 2 of those should be a 45 minute walk, and Talulah is no exception. As she gets older, that will decrease.

Talulah does very well with other dogs but with some dogs, she tries to be dominant but that is also true of many dogs. Again, with clear corrections from her owner, Talulah will submit, she is actually a push over. She is great with children but of course should be supervised, but that is true for all dogs.  She loves the car and does well on a leash.

The perfect home for her is an active family, with children, that will have time to walk, run, hike and play with her on a daily basis. She also loves to snuggle and sleep with her people; she is really a sweet girl and learns very quickly—a diamond in the ruff that wears her heart on her face. Any family that adopts her, will have a wonderful dog with lots of character and spirit—lucky family.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
