ADOPTED 06-17-12 – Skylar Loves going for car rides now, when I take her for a walk the first thing she does is walk up to the car. She knows she goes somewhere fun when she gets in the car. She is still fine with the crate but I let her sleep in my room on the floor at night. I let her on the couch and in bed when it’s just me watching tv. She loves to go on her walks and smell everything, especially the chipmunk’s scent. She tries chasing them in the woods, same with squirrel’s lol. She has learned sit and down and we are working on come. I’m doing loose leash training in the woods and it may take her some time to finish sniffing something but she comes which is good. I’ll keep you posted about her progress.

Skylar is the sweetest snuggle you’ll ever meet, I love being with my people and meeting new people all the time. My foster mom say’s I’m a natural on the leash never pulling, but I do like to stop and smell all the new smells on our walks because I’m part beagle, always sniffing the ground or air. When I get home from walks and my foster has stuff to do I entertain myself by playing with my squeaky toys and chew treats, but once she come into my view I stop and go to her to get belly rubs. I think she wants to ketch me playing with her camera so you can all see how cute I am when I playing but I’d rather she pet me. When I’m not playing I like lounging around, my favorite spot is the bed, sometimes when she wants me to go out and do my business I just roll over on the bed so she gives me belly rubs.

Slylar is awesome with children and dogs. Watch these short videos and see how sweet she is, she will melt your heart.

SKYLAR AT THE SHELTER ♥♥♥♥ SKYLAR AND DUCHESS

I don’t have to go out yet so I’ll stay in bed all curled up. I like other dogs as long as they don’t try to dominate me but I am very tolerant, probably because I have had puppies already. I really would like to play with other dogs but having them in the house isn’t necessary, maybe play dates or a day at the dog park where I can socialize with my own kind would be nice. I’m not a huge fan of the car, my foster mom has to pick me up sometimes and put me in it but she thinks with a little time I will get in by myself every time. Going in the car will mean going to new places that are fun with my people, I  just need time to realize that. In the car I’m quiet, lay down with my head pointed to the floor, I may whine a little but settle down quickly and when we get to where we’re going I get in the front seat and exit the same door as my foster mom. She doesn’t mind because I’m still wearing my leash she grabs, I think I would do well if someone was with me in the backseat. I did enjoy being my foster moms parents house, they have two older dogs I took a nap with and then I took a nap with her mom after running in the backyard, it was a lot of fun.

Skylar was assessed by a professional and said that she is one of the nicest dogs that she has ever met. Can you imagine someone dumping and throwing her away like trash.  She is extremely lovable and gets along wonderfully well with other dogs. Take a look at this short video to see how charming She is!!”

I liked meeting some of their cats; I was curious but didn’t chase them in the house. It was warm out which I enjoy because I have only one layer to my coat so when it’s chilly out I like to stay in the house because I get cold. My foster puts a sweater on me in the early morning if it’s chilly and windy so I’m not so cold. I rarely bark, only when playing with my toys sometimes and when put in a crate and left alone, my foster says because I’m potty trained I don’t need to be in the crate while she’s gone. I eat in the kitchen and I like to have her with me when I do, she went outside one time when I was having breakfast and I stopped eating to see where she went. Now she does stuff in the kitchen while I’m eating so when I look for her she is there. My perfect home would be with a nice family who likes to take daily walks, lets me sleep in their bed with them at night and gives me all the belly rubs I want.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
