ADOPTED 10-15-12 – The Rosilynn that you see today is unrecognizable from the Rosilynn that came into our rescue several months ago. When I first saw Rosilynn in a high kill shelter in south Alabama, she huddled in the back of her cage, terrified and depressed, where she had her head hung between her front paws, as if she had given up on life. She had been dumped at the shelter when she was no longer of use as a breeder. I have never seen a dog that was in such a defeated mental state. Shepherds are known for their sensitivity and their loyalty to “their person”. Because of this loss and abandonment Rosilynn was affected much more than most.

In rescue, we understand that each dog that comes to us has their own healing process that they must go through in order to become healthy, and most importantly, a happy dog. “Ros”, as we affectionately call her, has been an inspiration to watch come into her own. Physically, she has blossomed into an approximately 6 year old blonde, Buxsom bombshell, who knows that she is quite the looker, prancing around to show off her beautiful coat and tail. Ros has developed a wonderful, dynamic personality, frolicking around like a puppy one minute and sitting by your side the next, wanting only to be petted. She has all of the attributes of her breed: loyalty, gentleness, intelligence, protectiveness and the ability to love unconditionally. Because of her nurturing nature, Ros has become the rescue’s “mother” figure towards the smaller or frailer dogs around her, watching carefully to make sure that they aren’t pushed around by the bigger ones.
The word that comes to mind when thinking of Rosilynn is “joy”, which is exactly what she will bring to her new family. Rosilynn would be happiest, and frankly, deserves to be, an only dog so that she can receive all of the affection that she didn’t have in her past. Ros loves people of all ages and sizes, and would be one of the most loyal companions that you could ask for. If you think that you are interested in Ros, please contact us. She deserves to have a “happy ever after” story.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
