Our vet has recommended that all dogs under 6 months not to spay or neuter the pups because they are too young, and their bodies are not fully developed.  Adoption donation includes transport and all vaccinations, except for the Lyme—therefore, the dogs will not need to get any vaccinations for the first.

Rockdale County Animal Services in Georgia is a small shelter; it cannot hold any more than about 40 dogs. The shelter sent out an email plea, which included RDVG, regarding the loveable adoptable dogs that they have in need. The email included photos and a small piece about the dog and said that they will have to euthanize many dogs if they don’t get enough out. The shelter director will not take owner surrenders and most of the dogs coming into the shelter are strays.

These wonderful dogs have many caring volunteers that work hard to help the shelter because it is always full. The shelter was maxed out however they had to take dogs from a local case that made it extremely urgent for the dogs they already have at the shelter.

Rocco caught the heart of one of RDVG’s founder and asked about him. The shelter volunteer tells us that Rocco was a stray in a field. These wonderful volunteers go to the shelter to help with the dogs and try to find them a rescue. The volunteer that works with Rocco describes an amazing boy and just a great dog. She added that everyone who meets Rocco immediately falls in love. He is very playful but also loves to cuddle.  When he came up north to Connecticut, we found out that was true and much more.

Rocco is being fostered in Terryville, CT by the founder that fell in love with him. He is a five year old male, neutered Shepherd Husky mix, dog friendly, heartworm negative and weights 55 lbs. The foster tells us that he is house trained, crate trained, very sweet, and loves to run with the other dogs. He gets along great with other dogs. He has an unusual sweet part of his personality, his foster tells us that he is very polite when she is going down the stairs with him. He stops by her side as she goes down the stairs. He knows sit, stay, lay down and his name.

Rocco’s foster took him to her vacation property off leash and she let him run wide open; however, he stayed by her side and came with her everywhere she went. She tells us that he’s really a people dog and also loves animals. He would be a great family dog but she also thinks any person who would like to hike or walk–he would love and make a wonderful addition to any family.

ABOUT THE BREED

German shepherd & Husky Mix are friendly but have a calm confidence about them, they may seem kind of reserved. When in need, however, a German Shepherd is instantly ready to protect, play a game or perform a task. With an eager intelligence, GS breeds are good with other dogs and children especially if they have been exposure to them.

Most GS owners say that the characteristics of German Shepherds are that incredibly loyal, and friendly. Huskies are classic northern dogs and incline to be friendly with people, including children. Most Huskies and GS breeds are good with other dogs.

These breeds are known for its intelligence (currently ranked #3) and the ability to retain training is legendary. The desire to learn and work gives them the trait to be purposeful in what they do. Very loyal, the bond is very tight between it and their owner. Other characteristics of this breed are its courage, alertness, territorial, and athleticism.

The Husky are first and foremost, very loving and gentle dogs, who give a lot of affection and love to receive it.  They’re good with children (though, of course, they should be supervised at all times). True to their breed, Huskies are also intelligent, and they thrive on human company. Most Huskies and GS breeds are good with other dogs and children.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
