ADOPTED: 2/12/11: Rest assured, this approximately two year old CORGI/TERRIER mix of all things cherished and beloved is why we’ve bequeathed her the very appropriate moniker “PRECIOUS.” Not only does this name suit her perfectly, but she is of such an inexhaustible good nature, especially given her horrific past, that one can’t help but be mesmerized by her tremendous capability to forge forward — All Systems Go, with nothing but joy and glee. No word of a lie: PRECIOUS’S entire body wiggle and quakes as in full delight as you approach, and it INSTANTLY MELTS YOU AND COMMITS YOU TO HER PRECIOUS SELF! There’s simply no escaping it: SORRY! It’s simply unavoidable, really. This dog is one of the most PRECIOUS GIFTS OF HEAVEN on EARTH — just ask our esteemed trainer Randy, and our other benevolent volunteer who saw her at the shelter and KNEW that they could not leave her behind. There’s no question that PRECIOUS “spreads herself like oil over the troubled sea of thought, and keeps the mind smooth and equable in the roughest of weather.” PRECIOUS is the type of four-legged pal you want to have around to help you mitigate life’s unyielding ways, as she’s the epitome of perpetual sunshine in the flow of life, precious as every moment of time that unfolds.
Rescued from a high kill shelter on the day she was supposed to be euthanized because she had a broken leg, apparently from being hit by a car or some sort of other extreme neglect or abuse (we can only guess in rescue without a history to inform us otherwise), this pint-sized precious pup that looked like a corgi/terrier mix that had been “put in the dryer and then hung on a cloth’s line to stretch three feet long while being pinned by her hind quarters,” STOLE OUR esteemed trainer’s heart & our other foster’s heart before they could even blink their eyes!! Years of experience in shelters affords one the ability to recognize the dogs that you just have to take, no matter that you can pinpoint the “why.”
All of the dogs in every shelter deserve rescue, and should never be in need of re-homing to begin with, but when you see an animal that beats the overwhelming odds, you help it in any and every way you know how, if you responsibly can. In these high kill shelters that the South knows all too well, only the “highly adoptable” dogs are even considered for the general public to re-home. PRECIOUS was never going to see that chance. Fortunately, our trainer who is rightly well respected in our region for his deep and abiding benevolence to the animals that need him most, was evaluating another dog when he had the good fortune to meet PRECIOUS. It was kismet that RESCUE DOG VILLAGE SAVE PRECIOUS! When Randy learned this dog that had licked his face without prompting just moments before would be euthanized in a few hours simply because she had a hurt leg, his heart broke, and our name, RESCUE DOG VILLAGE was written on her card. We still had to wait the official “HOLD” period and left instructions for them to fix her leg, at which point it was tended to and a cast put on her front right appendage. PRECIOUS may have had a hurt leg, but if Randy didn’t take her into our rescue, he’d have had a broken heart that would have been much more difficult to mend. Hence begins our rescue story with PRECIOUS!
LIFE, itself, is the most precious of all, and what better than a dog named PRECIOUS to remind us all of the many blessings we are surrounded by daily, if that’s what we decide to keep our focus on as clearly this dog has done despite the terrible hand of cards life has dealt her. Fortunately for our rescue and the dogs that grace our days, our trainer, Randy, has over 40 years experience working with dogs, and so he knows a special dog when he sees one. He shares, “PRECIOUS LOVES SO DEEPLY AND FULLY that when she see me she comes wiggling up to me, hurt paw extended and has learned that we we all say, ‘Boo Boo,’ and she kisses us all on the nose when we acknowledge her and accept her damaged little foot in our hands.” Amazing, huh — and true! PRECIOUS IS ONE GRATEFUL AND LOVING DOG — no matter what her unknown and unfortunate past was like. She made the better choice that we all should make — forgive and move on, loving large because it’s what makes a life meaningful. Watching Randy with PRECIOUS is a spectacle in itself. He can’t resist but scoop her 25 pound little body up into his arms, and hoist her on his shoulder, and she just nestles her head over his back and as close to his neck as possible as if to say, “FINALLY, THIS IS THE GOOD LIFE.” And she looks so smug, happy and content! It puts a smile deep in your heart that erases all that plagues a spirit! It doesn’t take much to make PRECIOUS HAPPY! And everybody absolutely loves her.
Fortunately, PRECIOUS is HW negative, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, on the necessary monthly preventions, and her injured leg is healing quite well. Simply put, she’s thriving in our care, a happy-go-lucky dog that wants nothing more than to wrap her world around her special person who is in the market for a devoted companion. Although her cast is off, PRECIOUS is able to walk nicely, with only a small limp that we all expect to continue to improve with the necessary time. Still, a highly active environment with a lot of rough and tumble activity is not what we’d consider ideal for this PRECIOUS PUP! She’d like nothing more than to be your lap dog and take rides in cars, follow you around the yard while gardening and be your constant companion for all things your life involves! When she came into our care she was just skin and bones, and now she’s filling in nicely and looks so healthy and happier than ever! When PRECIOUS was being spayed, it was discovered that she had a lot of scar tissue. Our vet shared that he was amazed she survived as apparently during one of her likely MANY puppy breedings, her uterus must have ruptured. Typically, a dog would have died from such blood loss and trauma that clearly went unnoticed at the time, but not PRECIOUS! Guess she’s ALWAYS had that WILL TO SURVIVE, and did just that, and then some! She has no lingering issues related to that as she had a total hysterectomy and is healthy and happy, despite her limpalicious self!
PRECIOUS truly reminds you what is so PRECIOUS about being alive even in the face of horrific and painful maladies. The ONLY choice to make? NEVER GIVE UP! And PRECIOUS hasn’t — and we won’t give up on her, either! When dogs enter our rescue, we whisper into their ears that they are “safe” and that we will “LOVE THEM FOREVER” and make promises we fully intend to keep. RESCUE DOG VILLAGE MEANS THAT WITH OUR WHOLE HEARTS. These dogs deserve nothing less, for sure, and have already been through so much, so our job is to focus on their futures and create the most ideal situation for their re-homing.
PRECIOUS is a very loving and entirely affection LAP DOG of the BEST KIND EVER. True to her nature — and will to survive — she is committed to loving large, the best definition ever of a real “LOVE SPONGE.” PRECIOUS has eyes that tell it all, and won us all over — but most especially Randy as he was convinced she could see his soul. That’s no small thing for him to say about a dog, and it speaks even more about this dog’s robust spirit and special nature. What’s more, PRECIOUS has a low level of need on every regard — other than to require a person around a lot of the time to cherish and dote on her. Trust she’ll give more back than she needs, and it will be as unconditional and pure as you’d ever hoped! PRECIOUS enjoys being around other dogs, cats and loves children, but we are not looking for an active environment for her, so please be mindful of such in your application.
House-trained and totally READY to jump into your loving fold, PRECIOUS will never require a heavy hand for anything. Harsh redirections would likely frighten her and diminish her complete trust, and it’s not what we hope for her, or any dog for that matter. PRECIOUS even loves to accompany us on car rides, and cuddles very gently even while driving. PRECIOUS walks well on a lead, is a delight to have around and will make a mature couple or individual a prized and cherished family member and a loyally devoted and true friend. After all, she is ABSOLUTELY PRECIOUS!

It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants.
