Our German shepherd rescue has a new male by the name of Leo that is now available for adoption. Leo has just turned 3 years old, is a classic black and tan, with a great personality and off the charts smarts.

Our boy came to us, as most of our wards do, from a less than positive environment but in true German shepherd style he refused to let his previous world define him. Leo instead chose to excel, embrace life and never look back, this amazing capability is the main reason

I have spent a major portion of my life working with this breed. Our boy loves other dogs, plays well with others, adores children and is great with adults. As with any shepherd you get devotion, commitment, love and protection, Leo just excels in these capabilities.

This guy performed extremely in all of our socialization and training programs, revealing a strong desire to train, a strong desire to please, a great intellect, strong bonding skills and a strong but in control protective instinct. Make no mistake Leo is the very definition of a love sponge, you will have to give up all accepted norms of privacy, wherever you are you will have  a shadow! Leo is a no brainer if you

Our German shepherd rescue just graduated a one-year-old Shiloh shepherd male from our socialization and training program. Nate is a classic black and tan coat, small Shiloh frame, 50-60 pound pup with high intelligence and no idea that he is small. Our boy absolutely enjoys exercise, playing wide open with the other dogs, dying for human attention and basically telling the world that you should be honored with his presence.

Nate performed very well in all of programs for socialization and training, revealing a strong desire to train, a strong desire to bond, a very high aptitude for problem solving and a strong but in control protective instinct. This guy is very good with people of all ages and gets along well with other dogs. Nate has all the positive traits to be developed as a working dog such as search and rescue, as his trainer, I believe that having a job would make him very happy.

Nate came from a bad environment where he was isolated, a situation that was horrible for him because he is internally wired to be outgoing, social and busy. As I alluded to earlier our boy is extremely bright and has handled his command structure, social requirements and behavioral demands with ease, Nate is a trainer’s dream. Make no mistake our boy is young with tremendous energy and drive, he definitely is not a couch potato. What I can say with extreme confidence is that if you are as devoted to Nate as he will be to you, there will be few limits on the future.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
