ADOPTED Down South 11-14-12  – Sweet Mommy Is Ready for a New Beginning – Karen is a sweet one year old mom we recently rescued with her two pups – Madalyn & Philip.  Karen had given birth to about 6 pups during a cold rainy night and by the time we found her, only 2 had survived… the rest had drowned 🙁

WE HAVE A VIDEO OF KAREN SO YOU CAN SEE HOW SWEET SHE IS:  VIDEO

Cute and cuddly Karen is a Corgi mix. She was surrendered by an owner who did not spay her and left her outside to have babies during a thunderstorm. Karen’s puppies have been adopted and she is ready to start a great life.

For all Karen has been through, she is a trusting and loving girl.  She is full of life and easily falls in love with everyone.  She will do well in any type of household.  She is spayed, up-to-date on her shots, crate trained, and coming along very well with housetraining.

This girl is ready for her very own forever home with a new beginning.  Will you please open up your warm heart and home to her today?

ABOUT THE BREED: The Corgi personality is one that everyone can enjoy. They are a bright, alert and happy breed. They are hard-working, highly trainable and extremely dedicated to the ones they love. If you are thinking about how a Corgi will fit in with you and your family? The charming Corgi characteristics are such that they fit into most households quite well and prove to be a wonderful addition. Their short stature is the perfect size for a kiddy companion yet tough enough to withstand their roughhousing.

The adult owner will equally enjoy the Corgi characteristics. The dog enjoys taking long brisk walks while behaving well on a lead. Getting the chance to exercise freely, in a safe area, also delights the Corgi. They are well suited for the sprawling countryside’s for which they were bred yet small enough for urban dwelling. If you are simply looking for a family pet or a dog keen enough to compete in obedience or agility, the Corgi is it!

The Corgi yearns to be in the presence of their human(s). They are happy lounging around at your feet on a lazy Sunday yet equally enjoy a challenge. Corgis are eager-to- please which makes them agreeable to training and can earn their keep as a valued dog.

The physical Corgi characteristics make them easily portable. They only stand about 10-12 inches high at the shoulder and typically weigh between 28 and 30 pounds. Smaller dogs require less food which makes ownership easier on the pocket book. Outside of providing a quality dog food for your pet, the required maintenance for a Corgi is quite minimal. Their short coat requires little grooming. An occasional bath along with frequent brushing is all they need. Nail trimming only needs to be done when necessary.

The Corgi is naturally alert which makes them a trustworthy guardian of their home and family. The Corgi is highly intelligent and want their owner’s approval, they will quickly respond when you ask them to stop any unnecessary barking.

THE IDEAL OWNER The Corgi fits into virtually any family situation due to their easy-going disposition. Ideally they would prefer that their people be home with them all day, but in today’s world, we know that’s typically not the case. Your pet needs to be considered a member of the family. If you involve your dog in at least one daily activity such as an evening walk, Sunday drive, or a snuggle on the couch while watching your favorite show, your Corgi will be content.

Children and Corgis go well together, given that the dog was socialized with children at a young age. The young child needs to be reminded that their pet is a living being and needs to be treated with gentleness and kindness.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
