ADOPTED ON 08-21-15 – Jojo is very smart and curious about the world, like a new baby discovering colors; he has the cutest little cropped tail that moves a mile a minute when you hug him. He is a sill a puppy and needs supervision; he is a male 8 month old chocolate lab / Australian shepherd mix. He weighs approximately 40lbs and is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He was a bit unsure after his long ride north from the south, but after a few days he came right out of his shell.

JoJo is active and loves to play with the other young dogs in his foster home. He also enjoys watching squirrels and chipmunks jump from tree to tree in his yard. He is excellent in the crate which he both eats and sleeps in. He will often go in the crate on his own when he needs a little down time.

JoJo is a young dog and his foster mom is working on jumping and leash walking, but he is a very sweet dog and aims to please. He is excellent in the car and he was picked up in CT from his long from the south, he slept on the transport volunteer’s pocketbook on the way to his northern foster home. He is fully housetrained and his behavior with cats is unknown.

JoJo would be a great with an active family and hiking partner and his little stub of a tail wags a mile a minute when you talk to him. He would love another dog to play with in his new home. If you have the perfect spot in your yard for him to pass his days watching squirrels and chipmunks, then this is the dog for you!

ABOUT THE BREED

Lab are people-oriented dogs, always ready for a jog around the neighborhood, a strenuous hike or an endless game of fetch. Labs are reliable, willing and patient. They love nothing more than activity and attention.

 Pet Compatibility

If a Lab has had plenty of exposure to other dogs, cats, and small animals, and has been trained, he’ll be friendly with other pets, too. They get along well with other dogs and can easily adapt to live with other small pets.

Children

Not only loves kids, he enjoys the commotion they bring with them. He’ll happily attend a child’s birthday party, and even willingly wear a party hat. Like all dogs, however, he needs to be trained how to act around kids — and kids need to be taught how to act around the dog. As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child.

Temperament

The Lab is a wonderful family dog that gets along with all members both big and small, rarely are they aggressive. They are very loving and affectionate and are eagerly playful. Labs have a very positive temperament and get along with most strangers.

Personality

Lab loves to run, swim, and play with children and adults alike. They are extremely loyal to their owners, hard-working and are generally good-natured, originally a type of gun dog. Labs are extremely versatile and have been put to use in the following roles: hunting, guide dog for the blind, police k9, search and rescue, drug sniffing, retrieving, as well as tricks and competitive obedience.

• Most important, it is your responsibility to make sure that your children and the dog are supervised at all times and safe. You cannot leave it up to the dog, the dog is an animal and will behave like an animal. They rely on us to guide and protect them, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
