ADOPTED 03-01-13 – Our rescue has recently graduated one of the most beautiful Belgian Malinois I have ever seen. At ten months this female is absolutely perfect in body structure, demeanor, colorization, intellect and job orientation. Heidi has the stride of a gazelle both running and walking; she is pure poetry in motion. We rescued this girl from a shelter environment where she had been abandoned by an owner that had no idea what he had owned much less given up. I have worked with and trained many German shepherds and Belgian shepherds over the years and I can, without qualification, state that our Heidi is the best specimen of the breed (Belgian shepherd-Malinois) that I personally have ever seen. Though the temperament of the Malinois closely resembles the German shepherd they have become a favorite of police, rescue teams and the military due to their overall similar capabilities in a much more compact body.

FAWN COLOR/BLACK MUZZLE*** SPAYED*** FULLY VETTED*** GREAT WITH PEOPLE
GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS***HOUSE, LEASH AND BASIC COMMAND TRAINED

Heidi has a beautiful fawn colored coat with the classic black muzzle, a body frame that is large for the breed (she will probably top out at about 75-80 pounds), a loving and happy temperament, an extremely capable mind, a strong bond similar to the GSD and a protective instinct that is second to none but always under control. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Heidi, she is a true inspiration.

Heidi has been tested with people one on one, in small groups and in crowds and has proved to be unshakeable in any situation. This girl has also been tested with children and again she is great with the kids, taking them under her wing immediately. Heidi also graduated from our socialization and training program with ease, mastering the leash, house training and basic commands in the process. Make no mistake this girl is a Porsche not a Volkswagen!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
