ADOPTED ON 08-30-14 – I have the supreme pleasure of introducing to the public our version of the “blue brothers”, 5-month-old German shepherds Jake and Elwood. These two littermates, after achieving health, have evolved into the entertaining images of their namesakes. Jake, always the leader although he hasn’t got a clue as to what he is leading and where he is headed. Elwood, always the vocal moral support for Jake no matter what he gets into, totally oblivious of the consequences. If you can be around the guys without rolling with laughter you are at best blind and at worst dead.

BLACK AND TAN COATS***NEUTERED ( DID NOT AFFECT ELWOODS VOICE)**** FULLY VETTED (BELIEVE I AM BANNED FROM VETS OFFICE)*** GREAT WITH EVERYBODY! ***GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS *** LEASH, BASIC COMMANDS AND HOUSE TRAINING IN PROCESS

Aside from being knock out gorgeous, these boys (independently) have reflected all of the wonderful traits of the breed, loyal, happy, playful, loving, intelligent, strong character, strong will, gentle presence, great desire to bond and of course a great protective instinct. Just for the sake of definition Jake has the black forehead and Elwood has the brown forehead but when they are playing it is all just a blur. Having said all these true and wonderful things about these puppies you must understand just that” they are puppies”, if it smells bad they will roll in it, if it runs they will chase it, if it is muddy and wet they will play in it and if it stands still they will chew on it.  Another defining issue with these guys is that even though they came to us malnourished they are now growing like weeds leaving only god to help the new owners if they actually grow into those ears and feet. The maturing experience of a German shepherd is not for everyone but those that embrace the process will be blessed with some of the most enjoyable memories they will ever create. On a parting note, having worked with Jake and Elwood for some time I can reveal to you that they sing better than the original      ” blues brothers “.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
