ADOPTED ON 10-29-11 – The true joy in any rescue is watching the evolution of an abused, abandoned or neglected dog recover from their background and revel in the possibilities of their future. These dogs become characters, sages, staunch old souls and playful puppies, all capable of limitless love, unbridle joy and immense understanding. Occasionally during the process of rescuing these dogs you run across a specimen that is not only capable of processing all of the aforementioned qualities but actually does accomplish the transformation. The dog in reference is a big male sable German shepherd named ELI, a rescue from a high kill shelter in south Alabama. With a history of abuse and neglect ELI has adapted well to his new life, fully happy in the fact that he can be deep, mature, protective, loving one minute and a complete clown the next. ELI draws his unique character from the fact that he can be anything he chooses to be at any time while simultaneously being in total control and fully responsive to his handler. This character is what makes this guy great; he chooses to be a good dog!

LOVES EVERYBODY, GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS, GREAT ON LEASH,  LOVING / HAPPY / TRUE LOVE SPONGE / THINKS HE IS A LAP DOG, GENTLE, GREAT WITH KIDS, ADULTS AND OTHER DOGS, LEASE TRAINED, BASIC COMMANDS, BLACK AND TAN, SABLE, MALE NEUTERED, HEART WORM TREATED, FULLY VETTED

ELI thinks he is a 100 pound lap dog, lounging leisurely in your recliner with you while you attempt to breathe. He believes there is a place for everything and everything must be in place, gently placing one of every object in that place without chewing, only problem is that only he knows where that ” place resides. This dog has never met a stranger (dog or human ), fully expecting everyone to understand this given and behave appropriately. A gentle giant with a flair for the jovial side of life ELI loves kids and comes across as a combination of conan and red skelton. If you desire a wonderfully unique ball of fun that will also be your best friend and guardian, ELI will fit the bill beautifully.

Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog. THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
