ADOPTED 02-25-12: Call it fate, chance, or even a miracle, but this is a story where sometimes a matter of minutes can make a difference between life and death. Our southern rescue partner had been noticing a pregnant dog in a culvert for a few weeks. She thought that this pretty, pregnant lab belonged to a neighbor up the street. On her way to the store one Saturday in December, she noticed the dog wasn’t pregnant anymore. She decided to follow Gracie into the woods and discovered her litter of five puppies. Gracie and her pups had been dumped in the woods and left to fend for themselves. It is truly a miracle that they survived the bad weather and dangerous wildlife with no shelter, water, or food. Poor Gracie had been surviving off a deer carcass. Sadly, two of the puppies were in such poor condition they had to be put to sleep. The other three (Chip, Goose, and Bear) are doing fine and have already been checked out by a vet and given their first shots. Luckily, the four dogs have been taken in by a foster family. They will all be well socialized as their foster mom has children, other dogs, and chickens.
Chip is one in Gracie’s litter of puppies. He is a 12 week old lab mix. He is a playful, loving dog who likes to be close to his owner. He is great with kids and dogs, but it is unknown his behavior with cats. He would do best in any type of family. He is a happy go lucky type of guy with a normal activity level.
