ADOPTED 12-31-13 –Inhumanely thrown in a rural area, this precious black and white bundle of absolute and total LOVE was rescued immediately by our caring volunteers. ATHENA is a young, estimated 5 month old lab mix of fun-loving fury. This little girl is so incredibly fun-loving and great with all dogs — big and small — and loves children of all sizes! Her foster reports that this is “one happy and amazing little dog to have navigated her way right into the hearts of everyone she meets!” Fortunately, too, she’s healthy, spayed, up to date on all her vaccinations and just as playful as can be and so tender and loveable, a little angel that crawls into your lap and perches herself comfortably there and looks at you with those big almond eyes full of adoration and appreciation for his salvation.

“She’s just the sweetest little thing you ever saw,” remark the vet techs. And some of our other volunteers giggle as they comment about Athena playing with some of the other dogs in our care. “Athena rolls on top of the other dogs and they roll over her and they run around really quickly and fast and it looks like a tornado of dust swirling about because they are having so much fun at full-speed bursts!” Athena is available for adoption to her ideal home now! .

ATHENA’s ideal home is one that would have a small fenced in yard, although not necessary if she is given enough exercise.  She enjoys being outside for periods of time, but not as much as she savors being indoors with his family. She would enjoy vigorous indoor play or short outdoor walks. ATHENA would make an ideal companion for another dog . But as much enthusiastic playfulness as Athena has, she is still so sweetly docile and quiet afterward — a real smuggler and lover!

This is a perfect little dog, looking for a perfect home — and it won’t take much, but time and a big heart and a willingness to be loved and to love. After all, that’s what matters MOST IN ANY LIFE!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
