ADOPTION DATE AD 02-12-2012 One of the most trustworthy and loving pets that you can bring home are dogs. This is because over the centuries, they have proved to be just this, earning them the title ‘man’s best friend’. In most homes and elsewhere, dogs are loved and usually treated well however, there are also many instances of abuse that is the appalling reality of our times. This is the story of one of them.

Cinderella has been with her foster mom since August 22, 2011.  Her physical scars tell us her story of neglect and a total disregard for any human compassion. When she picked her up from the vet it was very obvious that she was severely neglected.  She was diagnosed as having sarcoptic mange, ear infections, as well as intestinal parasites.  She has extensive hair-loss and skin problems due to scratching and is currently being treated with lots of loving and tender care by her foster mom and her family. The mange, ear mites, infection, intestinal parasites, and skin irritation add to her hourly and daily discomfort.

Ear mites are a tiny spider like parasitic mites that infect the ears of dogs and are terribly uncomfortable. Imagine how it would feel having thousands of little bugs running around in one of your most sensitive areas. She will scratch her ears and shake her head due to the extreme itchiness that the mites cause. Her ears are painful to touch and she cries in pain when you touch them or while she is scratching them. She may rub her face along the ground trying to relieve the itching. Dogs can cause damage by scratching which can cause the ears to bleed. They may also shake their ears with such intensity that small blood vessels are broken and hematomas form.

The motion of the mange mite in and on the skin is extremely itchy; mites are not insects; instead they are also more closely related to spiders. Furthermore, the presence of burrowed mites and their eggs generates a massive allergic response in the skin which is even itchier. Simply put, she suffers from massive and constant scratching everywhere.

Currently, she is receiving weekly treatments, worm treatment, antibiotics for her ear infection along with weekly cleaning and it is helping, her hair is starting to come back because of the treatments.

Cinderella (affectionately known as Ella) is described by her foster mom as having a wonderful personality and moderate energy level but that could be because of all that is going on with her.  She is laid back and easy-going.  Here emotional scars tells us the rest of her rescue story, her mom says that she is still skittish around people, and it is extremely obvious that she has been hit throughout her short life.  She still cowers when approaching for attention and petting.

Here foster home has a 1 acre fenced in yard, and Ella likes to play ball!  Football, softball, baseball, tennis ball, she is a VERY happy girl with a ball.   She is currently isolated from the other foster’s as she is highly contagious.  Our foster goes above and beyond to help these dogs and keeping a dog isolated is double work. When her treatment has been completed, she will be introduced to the other dogs, and we will know more about how she is with dogs. My guess is she knows she can trust them and will do well.

Ella is WONDERFUL with kids, she will still cower when petted, but there has been NO sign of aggression from this sweet girl!  She has not currently been introduced to any cats, as she is still separated from all other animals due to the mange.

As you can image, she loves to eat and eat…and eat….hmm, more of her telling us what her life was like. She is housetrained, will whine for a short time in the car, but relaxes after about five minutes. We think that her car rides might have been scary experience. She is a perfect angel in a crate—which kind of really describes her, she is excellent on a leash.

We can’t fathom how someone could do such horrible things to a sweet, loving and innocent dog. Her story is one that will stay with you because we can only imagine what it was like for her and what she went through, we hope that we are wrong. She probably wondered what she did wrong and why the person she loves and trusts keeps hurting her. Animals only want to be loved and they give so much love in return.

The scars on her neck tell us about the final and last cruel life she had to live and it is no surprise that she is afraid of men and a raised hand. Her perfect home would be one with air-conditioning because Ella loves the air-conditioning.  A fenced in yard is a must for this sweet girl, she must NEVER be tied up again. Most important, tenderness and love, we are committed to making sure that she gets all of those things because she is worthy of it.

As soon as Cinderella comes off her 7 day stray hold (7am on Wednesday, 8/17/11), PAWS will bail her out of the pound and take her directly to the wonderful Cooper Vet Hospital. We would like to have donations set aside just for this special pup so we can get her all fixed up as soon as possible. We will update after she has been seen by a vet but feel like Cinderella’s road to good health will be a long and costly one.!

Despite being terribly uncomfortable, Cinderella is a loving and sweet dog! Check out a video of her here.  The shelter workers and volunteers are amazed by her gentle nature and sunny disposition. Cinderella definitely deserves to be treated with the same love that she gives out to everyone who stops by her kennel.

Even the smallest “chip in” amount helps! We can’t continue to save these wonderful pets from the Ouachita Parish Shelter without funding in our rescue account. Donations are 100% tax deductible. We have a local foster home lined up for Cinderella and Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. will list her for adoption and help us find her a fabulous loving home once she is healthy.

Soon this special girl will be as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside!

FOSTER UPDATE: 08-24-11

I picked Cinderella (Ella) up from Cooper Vet this afternoon.  She has a tremendous amount of support from her fans on facebook, and I would like to thank everyone.  She has a long way to go.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a funny story for Cinderella’s first day here with us.  I wish I did. I would LOVE to have anything humorous to attach to her right now, but I don’t.  Ella is skinny, missing tons of hair, has intestinal parasites, as well as infected ears, and sarcoptic mange.  She pees when I move too fast around her.  She is scared of the quick movements of my children. It is very clear that Ella thinks a hand is to hit her.

I will keep everyone updated on Ella’s progress, and will post pictures of her often.  She does have a long way to go, but she will get there.

UPDATE: 08-17-11

Our sweet girl was picked up from the Ouachita Parish Shelter first thing this morning and taken directly to see Dr. Lauren at Cooper Vet Hospital. She was perfect on leash and had excellent manners in the car and in the clinic waiting room.

Cinderella does have the super itchy and contagious sarcoptic mange. They found hookworms and whipworms in her fecal. As was expected, Cinderella did test positive for heartworm. She will also need to spayed. Her medical treatment has already been started and hopefully Cinderella can move to a foster home tomorrow.

It will be a long road bringing sweet Cinderella back to good health but we are ready! This darling dog certainly deserves!! She is only about a year and a half old and has a long, happy life ahead of her! Cinderella amazes us all with her kind and loving spirit…everyone who has met her falls instantly in love.

Golden girl “Cinderella” needs our help! Sweet Cinderella came in to the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter as a stray.   She has been cruelly neglected to the point that she is missing most of her fur and her skin is inflamed and covered with scabs.

Thankfully, PAWS of Northeast Louisiana stepped in to pull her from the “OPAS” her via our Shelter Rescue Program to help this girl. We are working with Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. in CT to help this girl.
