ADOPTED ON 12-21-13 – Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. was asked to help because, sadly, the shelter has 28 pens and all of them are full; they need to make room for the new dogs and time is running out. HOW LONG DO THEY HAVE? The technical answer to “how long” is 5 business days, according to the City ordinance. They are on borrowed time, after that. As long as some dogs are getting adopted, the 5 day rule hasn’t been forced. However, dogs are not getting adopted and the pens are full. These babies are in serious danger and they could be gone at any minute.
We are in desperate need of help to save four puppies, Neiko and the following 3 dogs: |

Neiko, Rusty, Maggie and Liquorice’s time has come full circle and their rescue road to a happy home has been a long and painful one.
1) NEIKO was found by a volunteer in a ditch by a highway curled up next to his sister who had already left this world never knowing a kind hug or a full belly. Neiko looks so sad in his photo, you can tell he is feeling the loss of his siblings and his sweet face is begging for a hug; his cage is small and has an open bottom. The Labrador Retriever is loyal, loveable, happy and friendly to all he meets. Labs are full of energy and will run to the door to greet you they are truly “man’s best friend,” and are at their happiest when engaged in family activities. They love running, hiking, swimming and playing fetch for hours on end and are extremely patient with children of all ages. Labs are a breeze to train, and as long as you are prepared to live with puppy-like behavior well into adulthood, they make an excellent choice for first time dog owners. The Labrador Retriever is one terrific family and one of the best dogs for children of all ages, they are kind, good-natured, and take most things in stride.

2) RUSTY was rescued by a volunteer angel that stopped when she saw Rusty in the road. He is a very sweet dog and needs room to run and play. Rusty is a Catahoula Leopard dog, they are known to be a wonderful pet. The Catahoula Leopard Dog is independent, protective and territorial. They love their family and all the people they know, need human companionship, but can be reserved with strangers. They are affectionate with the human alpha. They need the right owner who understands the importance of structure, leadership, and exercise.
3) MAGGIE was captured by animal control in LA. She and her sister Liquorice were just babies at 12 weeks old. They escaped death when a southern volunteer from the Winnsboro Animal Shelter saw them and took them into their shelter. Maggie has a sweet and gentle spirit and loves to be loved. She needs an owner who will teach her how to become the dog she was meant to be. Like many dogs her age, she is full of puppy energy and she needs direction and constancy in her life. Maggie’s ideal home would an owner who will not dump her in the woods and can provide her with lots of love. With patience and love this little girl will surely turn into a wonderful companion.
4) LIQUORICE was captured by animal control in LA. She and her sister Maggiee were just babies at 12 weeks old. They escaped death when a southern volunteer from the Winnsboro Animal Shelter saw them and took them into their shelter. Sadly, she has been cooped up in a tiny cage for over 5 months. As bad as that sounds, it is a much better fate then to be euthanized by the City—all she needs is a family to run and love her. The volunteers tell us that Liquorice is a terrific family dog and she is one of the best dogs for children of all ages. She is kind, good-natured, and takes most things in stride.
We need your help to get them to a safe loving home where they can have a chance at life because they deserve it. Please take a moment and consider adopting or fostering one of them. Rusty, Maggie, Liquorice and Neiko would be very grateful if you could pass their story on to your family, friends and post on it facebook.
