ADOPTED 03-17-11 Our precious puppy, YODA, rescued from a high-kill shelter on the Gulf Coast of Alabama is an adorably sweet German Shepherd mixed with maybe LAB or COLLIE, or some other absolutely precious dollop of sweetness. No matter, really. Whatever this amazingly special four-legged’s pedigree, there’s no denying that he’s just “STINKING CUTE!” And yes, you read that last statement correctly! Just look at those GIGANTIC EARS! Aren’t they totally fabulous? He looks as though he might actually take flight with ears that HUGE~ !!! We can’t stop looking at them, either and laugh endlessly every time we are blessed to be around this special animal! Estimated to be approximately 9 months old, perhaps YODA’s noggin’ will eventually grow to be proportionate to his galactic auditory system. Or not! Seriously though, we also lovingly refer to him affectionately as YODA because of the Star Wars character’s legendary wisdom and mastery of THE FORCE! In that regard, we know that our YODA — the Sirius Superstar that he is encapsulates THE FORCE OF FUN, and will surely help whomever he comes into contact with battle all evil forces that might possibly plague one in a day. It’s that simple, really! Just LOOKING at this dog makes one so incredibly happy that laughter is the consequence of being in his presence! Although Yoda the Jedi master was suspected to be 900 years old, details of his life history always remained relatively unknown. Same is true with Yoda — the dog whose first few precious months on Earth will also likely always remain a mystery. But the most important secret has now been revealed: YODA’S FUTURE IS BRIGHT WITH POSSIBILITY, and he’s got a loyal following of devoted rescuers to ensure that he has EVERYTHING he needs and then some, to thrive . . .

This eager to please little darling dog currently weighs in at 42 pounds and is expected fully to gain at least 20 more pounds before he’s done growing, and possibly more. Totally vetted, completely healthy, and altered, this ball of cuteness was rescued and terrified. Yet, when our rescuers went to the shelter after his “HOLD TIME” was up, and nobody claimed him, it didn’t take him long to unfurl onto their legs and enjoy the attention being lavished upon him. Though, make no mistake about it — those GIGANTIC SATELLITE EARS OF YODA’S were constantly on alert and he was very aware of his surroundings. It was too sweet to look at him try to get them to stand erectly atop his gorgeous head! They look like big antennas searching for forever love and security, and that’s what we are destined to help the deserving dog find. Currently, we can say that YODA has a moderate level of activity, but expect with the passage of time he’ll learn that he’s even more safe than he knows and will begin to play even more. Right now his tail wags furiously in delight when ANY attention is given to him, or if there’s another dog around! His earlier shy demeanor is quickly becoming a pattern of the past and he’s learning that we want him to just BE A DOG and play, romp, frolic and enjoy life to the fullest. That should not be hard, after all — he’s intensely smart. Aren’t most all German Shepherds? YODA is no exception! He’s ONE with the FORCE, and we expect his forever family to be as well . . . Lofty expectations, we know, but we aren’t settling for anything less. YODA DESERVES THE BEST! In the time we’ve had him in our care, we’ve seen him FLOURISH MORE AND MORE EACH MOMENT! He prances like a proud boy with the other shepherds and labs and LOVES TO BE AROUND PEOPLE, RECEIVE PETS AND FOLLOW YOU EVERYWHERE! He is just such a sweet boy, and those ears . . . oh, those ears. He’s just irresistible, and we are so happy we have him with us and saved him from doom because he’s just surpassing all hopes and expectations! “A LOVE MUFFIN FOR SURE,” says our trainer Randy and his devoted fans . . .

A dog that likes all people, other dogs, cats and even kids is how we can best describe YODA. Although he has those moments of shyness still, he is very affectionate, playful and quite happy! And he loves car rides! Our esteemed trainer, Randy says, “YODA is quite a clown in behavior, and his ears amplify this fact. Those ears are as cute as they come, and YODA’S personality personifies total sweetness.” Like any young dog, YODA will do best in a home with another dog and with a family who wants to help celebrate his need for continued healthy development and socialization by offering love ad nauseam. That’s just something YODA can NEVER have enough of: LOVE! So, only apply if you have ample doses of it to go around! If not, this is not the dog for you because YODA has copious loads of love to share, and should have the same returned to him. That ideal home will also have a lot of time to devote to YODA, and understand that perfection is possible, but that it doesn’t happen overnight. A young puppy outside of rescue requires time, patience and understanding. One that has the added baggage of rescue and an unfortunate past requires even more of all the above, but as we’ve found with all the dogs in our care once they’re re-homed, they also tend to offer more generous servings of commitment, loyalty, companionship and devotion for they sense deep gratitude at being loved and feel obligated to show it in every interaction. That’s true for YODA who is just as precious as can be and eager, ready and waiting to be part of your family! Already he’s learning commands and responding well to this new vibe of love he’s been introduced to, and we’re smiling as wide as his ears are huge! HAPPY TIMES AHEAD FOR YODA! May the FORCE be with YOU and also with YODA! Please help him find his eternal Empire, that forever home he so deserves! YODA is supremely sweet and such a special dog!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
