ADOPTED 09-24-11 – FOSTER UPDATE from Heidi’s foster mom: 09/05/11  – Heidi is doing very well. We have deer all around our house and she picks up on that scent and kind of like a hound. Her foster mom said that she is just super sweet. The best part of Heidi is to watch her talk to the cat. She is starting to get use to the cats but still likes to chase them if she can.

Her mom has been walking her and Heidi is great on the leash. He admits that her own two don’t do as well as she does but confesses that they are all spoiled and loved. She sleeps well at night and only gets up if the other two dogs do. Heidi does not like the rain and we think that she must have been left out in it because she had a few accidents. Once she understands that her new family will never leave her out in a storm or rain, she will be able to get over that insecurity.

ORIGINAL BIO – Heidi came into the Ouachita Parish Animal shelter as a stray in early August.  Only a chosen few dogs are put in the adoption area of the shelter, less than 10%. It was decided that she would not be put up for adoption after her stray hold but volunteers who care for the dogs and met her; put in a good word for her.  She was adopted from the shelter on August 11th by an elderly woman.  Being a young, playful pup, Heidi was too much dog for her adopter and she was returned to the pound a few days later.  Heidi had one last chance at adoption at an offsite adoption in late August.  She was not adopted and was set to be put to sleep but thanks to PAWS of NE LA and Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc., she was saved!

HEIDI is extremely lovable, take a look at this short video to see how charming she is!!”
HEIDI  AT OPAS SHELTER

Heidi looks to me like a mini Rhodesian Ridgeback…after her foster got to know her she realized that she is a very unique pup!  She has a gorgeous shiny coat that does not shed.  Her distinct circle around her eyes, looks like she has black eye liner on—Heidi is always smiling and loving.  She loves to sit in a lap and cuddle but also like to play and go for walks.  She did climb out of her run when at the shelter but it was to play with other dogs.  She has not shown any drive to climb out of the yard in her foster home but is not left outside unattended.

Her health is excellent and was spayed 8/29/11.  He tested negative to heartworm, is on prevention and she is current on all vaccinations.    She loves to cuddle…if there is an open lap or a cozy spot on the sofa, she is there, and she is a real friend!  She likes to play with other dogs and go for walks.

Heidi loves to run and she has a moderate to high energy level to match that. Moderate – high.  She does need daily exercise as she is still a young dog but is also happy to lay around the house with her people.  Heidi enjoys going for walks and like to explore new places.  She is good with dogs, no food issues, working on her house training but that is normal, great in the care, crate leash and is excellent with children but we are not sure about cats.

She has no know fears except being left abandoned at the shelter. Her perfect home would be any loving family who can give her lots of love and attention.  Heidi wants to be a part of the action, live life and be with everyone.

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc., we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members.

It’s sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don’t want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It’s that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that’s our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE’VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you’ll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can’t continue rescue if we don’t do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family’s eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you’ve submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

EMAIL Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. at: rescuedogvillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, if you submit the application now, so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

If you’ve got the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics,   PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!

ALL interested adopters MUST complete an application; agree to a vet reference check, phone interview and home visit. ALL family members MUST be in attendance for home visits – no exceptions. This helps us get to know everyone in the family so that we can help find the right dog for you.

THE BREED WE POST FOR DOGS ARE OUR BEST GUESS, IF IT IS A PRIORITY THAT AN ADOPTER NEEDS TO KNOW THE EXACT BREED, THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE THE DOG TESTED OR ACCEPT THAT IT IS OUR BEST GUESS AND NOT AN EXACT SCIENCE.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
