ADOPTED 12-16-10 – When this absolutely amazing Lab/Golden mix first came into our care, rescued from a high kill shelter where we also saved four other dogs that same day, he was incredible timid, sadly heartworm positive and just in very poor shape all around. Good thing those days are OVER! EVERYTHING HEREAFTER IN DANIEL’S LIFE IS PURE DELIGHT — including his health, level of happiness and playfulness. No longer is he the shy, sickly sad dog we first met! Now he’s TOTALLY VETTED, UTTERLY HEALTHY and ROMPING WITH DELIGHT IN HIS FOSTER HOME, just THRIVING with five other dogs of differing ages, sizes, genders and breeds. Daniel just loves everyone and everything and is so happy to be celebrated as a DOG! Daniel shows his gratitude by wagging his tail constantlyl! His best friend is a 100 pound 3 year old huge resident Golden Retriever named “SPENCER” who he just frolics and rolls and romps with to his heart’s delight! And the latest foster dog in the home DANIEL shares, also posted on this site, ZEKE, is just tickled by Daniel too. They never leave each other’s side and are constant companions! It’s DANIEL’S DELIGHT that STRIKES AGAIN!

It’s so inspiring to see Daniel doing so well now because when he first entered Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc.’s program, he had a respiratory infection on top of all his other health issues, and that diagnosis predicated we treat his heartworms even more slowly than we typically do. We dispensed the ivermectin treatments even further apart, per our veterinarian’s recommendation. As Daniel got to feeling better, he clearly showed it by increased energy, a glimmering coat and extra special attention to the humans taking care of this special boy. And the journey was well worth it because Daniel is the poster dog for RESCUE, really. These dogs enter our care very malnourished and neglected, and with proper vetting, thorough evaluation and nurture, training and socialization — THEY THRIVE! It’s hard to believe that this is the same dog we first met a few months ago. No longer emaciated, tired and trampled looking or skittish, DELIGHTFUL DANIEL is a beautifully stunning young boy, whom we believe can be no more than two, but certainly over one year’s old!
DANIEL’S personality is ALL GOLDEN and he’s got that Golden/Lab structure with shorter feathering, but even that is getting longer now that he’s on a great diet and his nutrient intake is better and the heartworms have been eradicated from his precious body. He’s just an easy and happy boy, and has overcome any timidity and just loves to be LOVED! When a dog is riddled with Heartworm, it’s hard for them to thrive and feel good, never mind “look good.” But now, Daniel’s coat is shiny and smooth, and continues to improve. Did we mention this poor chap also had such a severe flea allergy that had gone untreated for seeming eons that made him look even more pitiful than ever? Again — those days are OVER! No parasites of ANY KIND BOTHER OUR SWEET BOY, DELIGHTFUL DANIEL! A simple look in this dog’s direction, and one receives the most thunderous TAIL WAG EVER! It is such a source of delight to see a dog so incredibly happy, and it fills us with complete joy! That same look that DANIEL graces us with, is the one that captured our hearts at intake. We knew that beneath the health issues plaguing this dog — as with most rescues initially — that there was a joyful, happy pup just waiting to enjoy life to the fullest. And just because he’d not had access to good veterinarian care, known a family’s love, or been treated with the respect and care every sentient being should know heretofore, did not mean we were going to deprive him of such any longer. In fact, it’s why we rescue: TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A DESERVING DOG’S LIFE — and Daniel deserved everything he got from Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. and all the great folks who were committed to his rehab and recovery from the start! Daniel doesn’t even realize that the BEST IS YET TO COME as we search for his ideal home where he will be a treasured family member and enjoy his days with hopefully another canine and a totally devoted human bunch!
The long and purposefully slow rescue road for Daniel has allowed us to get to know this dog inside and out, and not only is he a great guest in his foster’s home, but he is easy and loving and gentle! His canine pal, SPENCER, does bring out the best in him, and that especially makes us smile! Our rescue doesn’t simply aim to “move dogs” — we hope to re-home responsibly and ideally to celebrate and honor all involved in the process. Every dog has unique needs and requires special attention. Just as no two humans are alike, no two dogs are alike. Rescue Dog Village Guardian, Inc. recognizes and celebrates that fact as an all-breed rescue should!
All too often people mistakenly believe that all Labs and all Golden Retrievers have the same temperament and the same personality and the same needs. That’s not true of children, and it’s certainly not an accurate belief people should hold about ANY DOG. Each breed certainly does have defining characteristics that help define the overarching behavior — Daniel does live up to both his suspected breeds’ definition: gentle, eager-to-please, devoted, loyal, loving, affectionate, playful and easy to train. But Daniel’s come a long way already — and this assessment of him today would have differed greatly from the one offered when he first came into our care. And we find that the dogs continue to blossom and thrive even AFTER they are placed into their forever homes, and it’s what we try to share with as many people that we can about RESCUE in particular. CHANGE AND GROWTH is EVER OCCURRING not only for HUMANS, but for dogs. Different environments and new changes certainly impact dogs, and the more consistency and care a dog receives, the more he’ll continue to thrive and blossom. We see the same thing with children, right? RESCUE TAKES A VILLAGE — most everything, to be done well, requires the assistance of so many people to ensure the best possible outcome. Fortunately, RESCUE DOG VILLAGE is blessed with die-hard, dedication from its members, and we give NOTHING BUT OUR ALL, and ARE COMMITTED TO BEST PRACTICES in RESCUE. There are no short-cuts, no failure to disclose, nothing but the best for our dogs and adopters. Having a seasoned expert trainer to lead our efforts and compassionate and informed fosters with well-balanced resident dogs to help our efforts surely makes a difference, too. And the foundation of our rescue is rooted in trust, and a deep faith that there is a home for every dog, and if we just focus on our strengths and share openly and honestly, we usually arrive there and can all celebrate together! So many people commit endless hours of their time, skill, talents, efforts, financial resources and hearts to rescue — and DANIEL is a perfect case in point. So many more dogs need help, and it’s only through responsible rescue that we can continue to save even more animals.
DANIEL is just an adorable goofy Golden/Lab who is so “HAPPY TO BE THERE” laughs our trainer, as pleased is he as the tender foster mom who is elated at DANIEL’S progress too! Knowing he’s come from such dire straights makes him even more special. DELIGHTFUL DANIEL will fit in most anywhere, and he just LOVES ATTENTION AND BEING PETTED AND PLAYING WITH HIS CANINE FRIENDS!~ Daniel is extremely gentle with children and loves people of all ages and sizes!~ It’s so very easy to love and celebrate DANIEL, and we’re hoping for a perfect family for this amazingly special boy we’ve all come to cherish! Trust us — YOU WILL FALL INSTANTLY IN LOVE WITH DANNY, TOO! After all, he’s such a remarkably EASY GOING GUY now, has never once had an accident in the house, does not dig, chew or bark much even! Daniel just likes the company of his canine pals, and his foster will be keeping all paws crossed for a forever home where he can live with another dog as it’s really when he’s happiest having both — the two-legged variety and a four-legged buddy or two around! Why not magnify the fun and joy in your life and ADOPT DANIEL as your next devoted and loyal companion! It’s the best gift you can give yourself, your other dog and family — and especially, DANIEL!

Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. Its sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we cant continue rescue if we dont do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
