ADOPTION PENDING – Our vet has recommended that all dogs under 6 months not to spay or neuter the pups because they are too young and their bodies are not fully developed.  Adoption donation includes transport and all vaccinations, except for the Lyme—therefore, the dogs will not need to get any vaccinations for the first year.

ADOPTED ON 02-24-18:  Sissy has a look on her face that says “I’m ready to play!” She is an adorable little girl; she is the product of an uncaring individual that dumped her and her sister. Like all puppy’s, Sissy is a spirited pup who can play hard but also cuddle up with you at the end of the day. She is now able to spend all her time searching for adventure and roughhousing with her foster brothers and sisters, and she takes it seriously.

Through no fault of their own, dogs in the south are left by the road to make it on their own, over and over again. Sissy and Haley are victims of being born in a place where there are many dogs and no solutions. Sissy’s story is heartfelt, she was found by a stranger who could not take care of the pups herself but stopped anyways and got them to someone who could. This chain of hero’s have a network in the south and each of them has a small part that helps these extraordinary dogs to safety—they are the Village. The remarkable people who make rescue achievable could not walk away from Sissy and her sibling even though her southern foster had 10 rescue dogs herself—now she has at least 12. We can’t ever envision having 12 dogs in our own home, nerveless, puppies but a rescuer’s spirit is pure and giving. Puppies come into this world with a clean slate. Sissy’s life is full of play, good food, afternoon naps in the sun and kisses daily from her rescuer that examines every spot on her.

Sissy lives in her rescuer’s foster home with her siblings who all serve as playmates. Supervision is still needed around the house – as a teething puppy, she might find your socks. She is a very popular breed because they are loyal, loving, affectionate and patient, making great family dogs and great with children. She is an intelligent, good-natured, very willing, and eager to please her humans.

Sissy is a bundle of love, she watches every move and is always at your side. She is a sweet girl that loves kids. She lacks no confidence, loves to cuddle and play with her toys. She is constantly on the go but keeps a close eye on where you are. She is very smart and a lively dog: has an excellent, reliable, temperament that is friendly that interacts well with children and equable with other dogs. Although, all dogs including those that are good with children, need just as much supervision as a two year old child.

Like all rescue dogs, Sissy needs a safe and comfortable environment. She would be happy in an active, but not chaotic household. Given how social a dog Sissy is, it would be ideal if she had another dog to share her days with too, but if her human(s) are around more than not, and she’d have the chance to interact with other dogs regularly, that would be okay, too. She will continue to thrive and grow and blossom into the amazingly special dog. The only thing missing? A forever home of her own, and she deserves that and then some.

The Saint Bernard breed are very gentle, loving and intelligent dogs. They are eager to please their families and are good with children, which makes them a great family pet!  It is believed that the Saint Bernard was used to be a rescue dog for travelers crossing from Switzerland to Italy. We think there that she might be part Spaniel, see more about the breed below, so she might not be as big as St Bernard.

If you think you might be a great match for Sissy, fill out an application today! This sweet, baby pretty little thing of all things great will not be available long! As all puppies need a lot of love and patience, Sissy would make a wonderful addition to a family willing to give her the commitment. In turn, he will worm her way into your heart and delight you with her puppy antics!

PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO CHECK OUT THE SECTION BELOW

RDVG wants to provide you with as much information as we can because some of our mix breeds you might not be familiar with. The below section on “About the Breed” offers information on some of the Breed Characteristics, Children & Pets, Behavior and Personality, Temperament and more.

It is important to point out that in addition to the breed, there is an enormous variety in the way a dog acts and reacts to the world around him. In the end, your dog’s preferences and personality are as individual as you are–and if you can accept that– then you’re bound to enjoy each other.

Children & Pets

Animal Behavior Guidelines

Many children, especially very young ones, do not realize that pets are living animals and not toys. Failing to teach a child how to handle pets properly can result in suffering on the part of the pet and, in some cases, injury to the child. Taking introductions slowly will allow you to introduce family dogs and your children safely

Puppy Behavior, Growth & Development

Each stage of Puppy Growth and development is fascinating; by the time it reaches its first birthday a puppy is considered a mature, adult dog. Puppy Growth rate is fast compared to humans, just compare a puppy of 8 weeks to a baby of the same age.

One of the most common questions asked about a puppy’s growth and development rate refers to the eventual size of the puppy. How big will the puppy grow? How can you determine the adult size of a puppy? A young puppy is tiny and cute – everyone loves puppies! But will the puppy be suited to your environment? How much exercise will be required for a full grown dog? Will the puppy be a suitable pet for children? The breed of the puppy will determine the answers to these questions. A general response to the size and growth rate of a puppy and the adult size of a puppy is therefore not possible – it needs to be specific to the puppy’s breed.
